Information for students and staff about the influenza pandemics, also known as the swine flu: the teaching and other activities at Aalesund University College will take place as usual, but it is important for everyone to take certain precautions.
Planned arrangements and the sponsor programme goes as scheduled. It is mandatory to attend the first days if you are a new student.
- Stay home if you are sick or it has passed fewer than seven days since the symptoms started
- Go home immediately if you get any symptoms of swine flu such as muscle and joint pain, a headache and a temperature of more than 38 degrees.
- Stay at home for seven days after the symptoms appear. This will help to avoid spreading the disease.
What is it?
Influenza A (H1N1) is a disease caused by a new influenza virus, which no one is immune against. Originally it was a disease that infected between pigs in some parts of the world. When the virus infection started to spread from human to human in large parts of the world, it is called outbreak of pandemic influenza. It is rare that the flu require hospitalization. For many disease provides relatively mild symptoms and not the larger problems than a normal seasonal influenza. When complications such as pneumonia, may require any hospitalization.

- pregnant women
- people who suffer from severe lung diseases, particularly those with reduced lung capacity
- chronic cardiovascular diseases
- low immunity
- diabetes mellitus (both type 1 and type 2)
- chronic kidney failure
- serious neurological illnesses
Contact your doctor if you have severe symptoms such as difficulty in breathing or problems with eating and with drinking fluids. If you have had the influenza for less than 48 hours, the Health Service can give you the necessary medicine. Make arrangements with your family, friends or others you know so you will get the help you need if your condition gets worse.
