Product and System Design

Water level

Based on a national framework plan:

National curriculum framework for Bachelor of Engineering

Duration:

3 years full time study

Degree:

Bachelor of Engineering

Entry requirements:

General college entrance requirements with additional qualifications in Physics and Mathematics.

Aims and objectives:

To educate mechanical and naval engineers highly competent in product development and design. The engineers shall

  • have interdisciplinary competence necessary to perform product development in a systematic manner.
  • be able to collaborate and communicate with colleagues in multidisciplinary product development processes.

Teaching methods:

Pod fres

Teaching methods are practical product development projects, labs and lectures. Methodology and project oriented approach are particularly emphasized in this program. Practical product development processes which emphasize creativity and innovation is major part of the study. This is carried out in labs where the students develop their own products from ideas to prototype. In this way the students develop professional skills.
Lectures and traditional labs are used to supply the knowledge base.

Many of the subjects also require the completion of individual projects and group projects.

The faculty makes extensive use of lab work, internet and web technology in creating an active and challenging learning environment for the students.

Structure and activities:

Each year of the study is divided into two semesters, with the following main structure:

  • Year 1:
Basic courses, math, physics, statics, material science, design and product development.
  • Year 2:
The student choose to go into mechanical or naval product development and design.
  • Year 3:
The students may choose specialization in one of the following directions:
    • Naval and Marine technology
    • Mechanical technology
    • Marine Engineering

The specialization is finished by the completion of a main project (small thesis).
