Description
The main objective of this study is to educate independent, responsible, flexible, and customer oriented leaders that have competence and willpower for a conscious, introspective, and ethical mind-set about retailing, colleagues, and customers. The study will provide competence, theoretical and practical, for becoming leaders in a branch of industry with great ethical, professional, and personal challenges.
The candidates will be qualified for continuing education at the Master degree level both in Norway and abroad.
Teaching methods:
The study includes teaching methods that stimulate independent and critical thinking and scientific approach to their profession and career. In addition to lectures, teaching methods include group assignments, self-study, and seminars with guest speakers. Several courses will include mandatory assignments and presentations. The web-based communication tool Classfronter will be used in communicating with students. Students are required to check deadlines and procedures for mandatory assignments using this resource.
Structure and organisation:
Theoretical structure
The first year students are provided with an introduction to basic economics, organisation, leadership studies, and retail trade structure involving the background and development of this industry. The student is to develop an understanding of how different persons in legal prosecutions operate and interact in marketing channels to support the economic and quality provision of products for end-users.
Students with less than 45 ECTS after one year of studies may apply for a continuation their studies following an individually adapted plan.
In the second year, the first year courses are continued. Language courses, corporate strategy and methodology are also provided. In addition specialised retail subjects are taught. Students are offered practice in retail firms during this year.
The third year of study provides a specialisation in market analysis, consumer behaviour, and other important marketing subjects. Sales and sales management, logistics and SCM (supply chain management) will also be taught. In the 5th semester students may choose to study abroad in accordance with the school’s exchange programme.
